A new residence of approximately 7,300 square feet on a rural site near Nashville.
The house is built into a hillside and appears to be one level from the front. The rear of the house steps down the hill to create a second level open to the back yard.
A screened porch, upper and lower level patios, and an herb garden connect the interior of the house to the outdoors.
The owner of the house creates stained glass, and examples of her work are integrated into windows, fixtures, and display areas.
Energy-efficient design features of the house include deep overhangs on the south-facing side to block summer sun, 2×6 framed walls with water-based spray foam insulation, and a “cool roof” to reflect solar heat.
